This year, The OFCCP, the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs, released an update to the United States Department of Labor website, that every recruiter and talent acquisition professional should take some time to explore. The OFCCP is going to continue to be a mysticism that causes talent acquisition professionals and recruiters to lose sleep for decades to come, so for readers without a clear definition of OFCCP, here is a brief summary directly from the Unites States Department of Labor website.

“The purpose of the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs is to enforce, for the benefit of job seekers and wage earners, the contractual promise of affirmative action and equal employment opportunity required of those who do business with the Federal government.” – www.dol.gov/ofccp

These regulations are not all encompassing for every organization, but if you recruit for major brands; it is likely that they have some ties to government entities and do business with them. According to GovernmentExec.com, here is a list of the top contractors of the U.S. Federal Government. Lucky for recruiters, the OFCCP has released a list of resources to assist with the hiring of veterans and individuals with disabilities. By visiting the site, www.dol.gov/ofccp, recruiters can be exposed to numerous resources of information that may help to demystify the OFCCP conundrum.

Some of the highlights of offerings of the website are:

  • Contact information – you can get everything from a toll free number, to information about your local office.
  • Information on local seminars or workshops for all states; i.e. Hawaii.
  • Webinars, speeches, presentations – this covers everything from self-identification, to court case settlements.
  • Workforce information – which is sure to benefit workers and veterans
  • And The “Federal Contractor Corner.” Here you will find:
  • Technical Assistance Guides
  • Documents to File a Report
  • FAQs and much more pertinent information

Any progressive human resources, talent acquisition, or recruiting agency will offer trainings on OFCCP throughout the year. It is important to continually have compliance top of mind, and to understand, demystify, and study these rules and regulations in order to assure a high level candidate, client, and organizational experience. With the release of the updates 2014 updated website, practitioners now have a resource readily available and accessible to combat the mysticism that is the unforgettable presence of OFCCP compliance.

I also invite you to an additional free resource for other recruiters and sourcers working for government contractors at my LinkedIn group: OFCCP / EEO Sourcing Compliance. Just use the title in the keyword group search on LinkedIn. There’s been tons of lengthily conversation in lieu of recent guidelines.
