Somebody’s Watching Me (and You!)

In 1984, a new Motown artist named Rockwell debuted a single featuring backing vocals by pop artist Michael Jackson. The most famous lyrics of this song (sung by Jackson) are:

I always feel that somebody’s watchin’ me…

I’ll bet Rockwell never would have guessed how spot on his song would be today. As sourcers, we are watchers. We watch for candidates and competitive intel, and many of the tools we use to monitor, profile, and reach out to our prospects placed in the wrong hands can be exceptionally creepy. We learned a lot about this from social engineer Chris Hadnagy at the most recent SourceCon conference in New York City. But I wonder how far this really goes…

#SourceCon NYC: Sourcing From Multiple Viewpoints

Albert Szent-Györgyi, Hungarian biochemist and winner of the 1937 Nobel Prize for Medicine, once wrote, “Research is to see what everybody else has seen, and to think what nobody else has thought.”

Being a good researcher means being able to look at many different sources from many different angles and find the data, and ultimately the value, in combining the common points from all of the sources. At SourceCon NYC, we did just that — we invited two presenters who have virtually nothing to do directly with sourcing to come and speak to us so that we could learn the value of incorporating peripheral tools and skills into our sourcing activities.

#SourceCon NYC: Going From Good to Great in Sourcing

Megan_Holte_SourceCon_NYC

Getting SourceCon NYC kicked off today, Megan Holte, Sourcing and Pipeline Manager at ADP, showed a video of TCU’s Amon G. Carter stadium demolition this past December. The old stadium was functional, but the decision was made to implode sections of it to build it back up and enhance football fans’ experience and upgrade amenities.

Holte asked this question: “Why would a team headed to the Rose Bowl blow up its stadium?”

The reason she showed this video was to demonstrate that a good thing sometimes needs to be broken down and rebuilt in order to become great. In her presentation, Holte shared how her sourcing team at ADP was “broken” in order to take it to the next level of success.

Podcast – Meet the Speakers for #SourceCon NYC: Adam Lawrence

The person who will wrap up SourceCon NYC is an amazingly talented and respected member of the sourcing community. We are so pleased to have Adam Lawrence, global head of sourcing for SAP, speaking at SourceCon NYC about a topic that doesn’t really come up that often in discussions about sourcing: the art of creating compelling communication.

As Lawrence states in his session description, “…locating the candidate prospect is only half of the battle. We need to place equal emphasis on ‘making the conversion’ – crafting targeted, role-based messages that will compel these prospects to take action and become active in our pipeline.”

Megan Holte

You’ve all heard the saying, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!” Well, we aim to shake up that notion at SourceCon this year. Just because something “ain’t broke” doesn’t mean it can’t be improved upon. For our opening keynote, Megan Holte, Sourcing and Pipeline Manager with ADP, will share how she and her team “broke” their model — which was functioning just fine — in order to reach a new level of excellence in sourcing.

In our pocast chat, Holte shares how, even though their team was effective, there were areas in which they could certainly improve. The changes the sourcing team has made over the last year or so has led to them nearly quadrupling their productivity, and her team has nearly doubled in size. What manager wouldn’t want to see that?

Julia Stone has been around SourceCon since its humble beginnings, and we are pleased to have her on the speaker stage for SourceCon NYC sharing how she does everything that she does.

As a self-employed individual, Stone is a busy woman – and she knows that many of you are as well! In her SourceCon NYC presentation, she will share some of her secrets for productively and effectively sourcing while balancing everything on your plate. While Stone will approach this topic from the standpoint of a self-employed “solopreneur,” the information she will share is relevant to sourcers from companies of all shapes and sizes.
