Competitive Intelligence and Corporate Espionage: A Sourcers Guide to Understand the Difference

Nov 14, 2013

Rusing is an often unspoken reality of the recruiting industry. In fact, the word rusing isn’t included in the Meriam Webster Dictionary, even though recruiting practitioners and legal experts have debated the practice for decades. To gain a better understanding of the meaning of rusing, view this Slideshare from Maureen Sharib from 2013, and this Bloomberg Business Week article from 2007.

To help shed light on the legal issues of rusing, phone sourcing, and competitive intelligence gathering, Steve Lowisz has released the white paper, Competitive Intelligence Vs. Corporate Espionage. It defines competitive intelligence and corporate espionage, and gives examples of both activities. It also takes a look at the state and federal laws, which could be used to prosecute those who cross the line into corporate espionage.

Phone sourcing is an important piece of the talent acquisition equation and can be done effectively without rusing and crossing into corporate espionage. Awareness and training are needed to ensure corporations stay competitive without being exposed to risk.

Download the whitepaper, and attend the phone sourcing sessions at SourceCon Atlanta 2014 to take your team to the next level.
