Each year, hundreds of sourcers participate in SourceCon’s annual State of Sourcing Survey. This survey helps us take a look at patterns, trends and the technology that sourcers are using throughout their day. This year, nearly 600 sourcers and sourcing leaders completed the survey.

The Persona

Before we share the results of our survey, it is important to understand the persona of the audience that completed it. This persona was built on the average majority of responses.

Meet Danni

Danni is a full-time corporate sourcer in the telecommunications industry with approximately four years of experience. She lives in a major metropolitan area and earns a salary of roughly under $50,000 annually. At any given time, Danni has 6-10 requisitions open, however, she fills over 121 positions each year. In 2016, sourcers and recruiters averaged an annual salary of $60,000.

What she does

Prior to sourcing, she spends approximately 20 minutes meeting with the hiring manager during intake sessions. She spends an additional 20 minutes gathering competitive and marketing intelligence. Prior to sourcing, Danni spends 40 minutes preparing to source for her open position.

Every day, Danni uses her paid LinkedIn account to source candidates. In addition to LinkedIn, she also uses her own ATS and Indeed to source candidates. She is extremely satisfied with LinkedIn as it fills most of her positions.

Outside of job boards, she likes to build her own search strings in search engines but sometimes relies on Hiretual and SourceHub to automate her search strings. Though she doesn’t use many sourcing tools, such does use Hiretual and Connectifier to find contact information. On average, she spends less than one hour a day using automated sourcing tools.

Once a month, Danni will use Facebook and Github to find candidates. About 25 percent of her hires come from these sources. This is a huge increase from 10 percent last year. Once she finds her candidates, Danni spends on average 35 minutes a day customizing messages. Her average response rate is 35 percent.

Since the theme for our ten-year anniversary conference was back to reality, we also asked sourcers what timeless trend is most important for sourcers to learn and understand. Their response was sourcing tools and technology, in addition to candidate experience and Boolean.
