A Sourcer’s Goodbye to Healthcare via Sourcing Toolbox

As many of you may have heard, I’m leaving the healthcare industry to join the Sourcing team at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. I know, shocker right? As I exit an industry that has been so great to me, I realized I had not said my final word to healthcare.

So here it is:

Healthcare Sourcing Toolbox

This a collection of healthcare sites and tools that have helped me in alternative sourcing pipelines in research, clinical, nursing, and everything else for the cancer hospital. If you are new to sourcing, a seasoned sourcer, or just need some additional resources, this is for you. The only way I know how to say goodbye to such a caring and compassionate industry is to build something for it. Healthcare sourcing has arrived, and it is here to stay, that is for certain. There are brilliant voices out there out there innovating in this spectrum, and many of them are tagged in this new Sourcing Toolbox.

When I was considering options, I went back and watched Randy Pausch’s Last Lecture. This was a man with stage 4 cancer given months to live, but choosing to be a “Tigger” rather than “Eyeore.” His take on walls:

“The brick walls are there for a reason. The brick walls are not there to keep us out. The brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something. Because the brick walls are there to stop the people who don’t want it badly enough. They’re there to stop the other people.”

Randy Pausch, The Last Lecture

Don’t let the brick wall keep you out…not ever. We have each other to lean on, the Sourcing Community, the person in the next cube, the nerds with keyboards dropping all kinds of tools on Facebook, and your ideas on how to innovate. The driving factor to get through the wall is thought, and we have a collective intelligence available to us that the Borg would love to assimilate.

What we have that no other industry has is…Each other. The openness to share ideas, strategies, tools, and some hacks to help us find those top notch candidates. There’s no way I’ve been able to put this together without ideas shared at roundtables, conferences (like SourceCon), Facebook chats, or conversations with the person in the cube next to me. It’s unreal at times how much knowledge can be dropped right in front of you if you just put your pride aside and admit you are stuck. There is always a way through the wall, or around the wall. Drawing on the collective wisdom of one’s peers is often the answer. When it comes to recruiting, we don’t need “disrupt” it; we need to innovate it.  That’s why I enjoy SourceCon so much; it’s the perfect assembly of inventive minds to drive our industry to the next level.

Unicorns are real after all; you just have to be clever to find them…

Recently I’ve started to see some new writers and contributors, and it’s fascinating to see some industries being represented, even on a global scale. Keep them coming! If you have an idea or technique floating around in your mind, put it down in a word doc and email Shannon@ere.net.

It’s been great ya’ll, thanks for reading, and I hope this helps.
